Frequently Asked Questions
Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive. If you have a concern not covered here, please feel free to contact the practice directly.
1. When should I book my first antenatal appointment?
You should ideally book your first antenatal appointment as soon as your pregnancy is confirmed, usually between 6–8 weeks. Early booking allows for accurate dating, baseline tests, and early identification of any potential risks.
2. Do you manage both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies?
Yes. Dr Zan is trained and experienced in managing both low- and high-risk pregnancies, including conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, previous Caesarean sections, and multiple pregnancies.
3. What should I bring to my first consultation?
Please bring your identification, medical aid details (if applicable), any previous medical records, scan reports, blood results, and a list of current medications or supplements.
4. Do you offer ultrasound scans at the practice?
Yes. Pregnancy ultrasounds such as early viability scans, dating scans, growth scans, and wellbeing assessments are performed as part of antenatal care when clinically indicated.
5. When should I see a gynaecologist for period problems?
You should seek medical advice if your periods are very heavy, painful, irregular, last longer than usual, or interfere with your daily life. Sudden changes in your menstrual cycle should also be evaluated.
6. Do you provide contraception services?
Yes. We offer contraceptive counselling and provide services including IUCD insertion and removal (Mirena, Copper T, Kyleena) and Implanon insertion and removal, tailored to your health needs and future fertility plans.
7. Do you treat menopause symptoms?
Yes. Dr Zan provides comprehensive menopause care, including symptom management, lifestyle advice, and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) where appropriate, following an individualised assessment.
8. What is minimally invasive gynaecological surgery?
Minimally invasive surgery includes procedures such as laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, which are performed through small incisions. Benefits include less pain, reduced blood loss, faster recovery, and shorter hospital stays compared to open surgery.
9. Do you assist with fertility and recurrent miscarriage?
